Cosmetic botulinum toxin therapy, commonly called Botox, is one of the most popular techniques used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth out facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin injections are placed into the muscles under the facial wrinkles, resulting in muscle relaxation. As your facial muscles stabilize underneath the treatment area, that lack of muscle movement prevents wrinkles from forming. Common injection sites include around the mouth, between the brows, across the forehead, and around the eyes.

There are several brands of botulinum toxin injections on the market. In addition to the most well-known, Botox Cosmetic by Allergan, Naya Aesthetics also offers Dysport by Galderma, Daxxify by Revance, and Xeomin by Merz. Each option is formulated differently, but the professionals at Naya Aesthetics are ready to help you decide which option will yield your desired results. Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, and Xeomin are FDA-approved treatments considered safe, non-invasive medical procedures.

After coming into the office for injections, most patients see visual results in one to five days, with full results within 21 days. It’s important to remember that results from neurotoxin injections are temporary. Depending on skin health and maintenance of your treatments, you can expect the results of your injections to last between three and eight months, which can be dependent on the brand.

FAQ’S

IS IT SAFE?

Yes. Not only are all our Neurotoxins FDA-approved but our injection technique has been used for over twenty years on tens of thousands of patients.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Most often, the effects of Neurotoxin treatment last about three to eight months. Clinical studies have indicated that treatments have more lasting effects over time, meaning you should require fewer injections in the future. However, results vary from patient to patient.

CAN BOTOX REALLY PREVENT FUTURE WRINKLES?

Yes, it can! Neurotoxin is an effective treatment for existing fine lines and wrinkles and works to prevent future wrinkles from forming. During those 3-8 months that your muscles are weakened from your Neurotoxin treatment, you cannot elicit the wrinkles, preventing the severity of future wrinkles. Ask us about Baby Botox!

HOW IS BOTOX USED FOR GRINDING, CLENCHING, TMJ AND FACIAL SLIMMING?

Bruxism (teeth grinding) can cause headaches, jaw aches, sleeplessness, broadening of the jawline, and dental problems requiring expensive corrective work. Clenching our teeth often or grinding them at night leads to excessive use of the masseter muscle, resulting in a more square or prominent jawline.

Botox is a method used for facial slimming. Treatment involves injecting the masseter muscle to reduce its size and strength, which relaxes the jaw and relieves the symptoms of pain, grinding, and clenching associated with this condition. Results can be felt a week after treatment,  and facial slimming may take up to 6 weeks for full results. Results last between six months to a year and a half.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO BOTOX?

Patients rarely experience negative side effects from Botox injections. Any potential side effects observed, such as post-injection bruising or headaches, should only be temporary and typically resolve themselves in the days/weeks following treatment.

Eyelid/eyebrow drooping is typically a result of improper injection technique and is not associated with the product itself. This is why it is so important to choose injectors, like ours at Naya Aesthetics, that perform Neurotoxin injections daily, so they have the most experience to give you the best results.

WHAT DOES THE POST-TREATMENT REGIMEN LOOK LIKE?

After Neurotoxin injections, you should avoid lying flat for the first four hours post-treatment. You should also refrain from intensive physical activity for 24 hours. Bruising is rare but can happen. If you are prone to bruising, please avoid alcoholic beverages and NSAIDs (Motrin/Ibuprofen/Aleve) for 48 hours before your appointment. You may also use Arnica, which is a homeopathic over-the-counter medication, for three days before injections to lessen the risk of bruising.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS?

Caution should always be taken before undergoing medical treatment of any kind. Botox may not be right for you if:

  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neurological or muscular disorder such as Bell’s Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis
